Flash Web Multimedia

Introduction

Multimedia is a great way to deliver rich, interactive content such as a searchable database of more than 1,000 great works of art, a language learning system with video, a 3D science museum exhibit, a picture dictionary, or a magazine article archive.

I have created numerous multimedia projects for education (pre-K through college) and for corporations which included interactive sales tools, press kits, media viewers, and virtual reality demonstrations.

I have developed fun games and children's activities for the top content provider’s in children’s media such as Disney, Bill Cosby’s Picture Pages, Highlights for Children, and Reading Rainbow, as well as General Mills and Time Warner Cable’s Road Runner.

Art History Interactive

The Prentice Hall Art History Interactive CD-ROM, developed by VPG, is a visually lavish and comprehensive collection of great art provided in an easy-to-use package. Art history students and teachers can search and view more than 1000 great works of art. They can create slide shows and study sets for study and presentation.

I developed the CD, including an internal database with XML data files for organizing and searching more than 1,000 pieces of art.

Disney Preschool Time Online-Backyard

Disney's Preschool Time Online, produced by Backbone Entertainment, is a learning-based destination for pre-schoolers with dynamically updated activities. The Backyard area includes games, sing-alongs, read-alongs, a paint activity and more.

I programmed the paint activity as well as several other activities. The paint activity featured object-based painting to make paintings easily editable, minimize file size, and optimize playback speed for all processors.

Make a Movie

JuniorNet’s Make a Movie allows children to create their own animated movies with characters, dialog, sound effects, and music. The Make a Movie interface provides an easy way for children to combine all these elements to successfully create complex animations.

I developed the Make a Movie concept, managed the development, and performed all of the programming.

You can try Make a Movie on the JuniorNet site.

Mission Explorable

Mission Explorable is a JuniorNet game that combines learning with fun and offers content that can be constantly changed. A graphic quiz section carries over to an exciting twitch game where you capture matching topics from the quiz with your hover ship. I managed the development of the original Mission Explorable and designed and programmed subsequent versions.

Macromedia Mech

Mech was a fun mechanical simulation and construction title that shipped with Director 5 and 6 as an instructional example. I designed Mech, managed the development, and created the interface and the 3D art.

Bill Cosby’s Picture Pages

The Picture Pages CD-ROM and website helped children gain early learning reading and readiness skills through 28 interactive educational games. The games, based on the original television show, Bill Cosby’s Picture Pages, provided a report on a child’s developmental level based on the techniques of Piaget. I designed a Director shell to display the games and also provide Flash game programming support.

General Mills/Bear in the Big Blue House

General Mills shipped 7 million Bear in the Big Blue House DVDs in boxes of General Mills cereal. The DVDs contained episodes of Bear in the Big Blue House, as well three fun JuniorNet Bear games that I adapted for DVD use, including creating a shell for more elegant game play.

Presentations

I specialize in creating dynamic presentations utilizing PowerPoint, Flash, and digital video. I can provide a powerful presentation that fits your budget and is delivered on CD or DVD. DVD distribution allows the same disc to be viewed on a wide variety of devices, including Windows PCs, Apple Macintoshes, and even most home DVD players.

Examples

The video on the left shows some samples of presentations I have created. The video requires Apple QuickTime and, at 5 MB, requires a few minutes to download. A message, “Click play to view” will replace the QuickTime logo after the video completes downloading.

Deutsch: Na klar! and Vis-à-vis

McGraw Hill’s Deutsch: Na Klar! and Vis-à-vis CDs, developed by VPG Integrated Media, provide German and French language education using QuickTime video, text, games, and voice recording and playback.

I programmed the CDs, integrating Flash, QuickTime, and audio recording with playback in a Macromedia Director shell.

The Heinle Picture Dictionary

The Picture Dictionary produced by Interactive Factory contains over 4000 words and provides a highly illustrated way for students to learn vocabulary.

The dictionary features an interactive CD-ROM version of the book which includes zoomable, high-quality illustrations, student progress reporting, audio vocabulary playback, student voice recording, and five Flash word activities for Web and CD-ROM playback.

I programmed the CD-ROM including the Director dictionary functionality and the integrated Flash activities.

Best of Fine Woodworking DVD

The Best of Fine Woodworking DVD contains over 1000 articles and videos from the highly respected magazine. An integrated database allows easy searching and browsing of the PDF articles. A viewer provides flexible viewing of the large magazine content as well as printing options.

I was the sole developer of the cross-platform DVD which included programming a SQL desktop database, and building a custom PDF viewer.

Harcourt Achieve Saxon Math eGradebook

The eGradebook produced by Six Red Marbles, allows teachers to enter student's scores for 6 types of assessments. The eGradebook generates and prints over 10, highly informative reports based on the scores.

As lead developer, I developed the eGradebook which included XML data import, a networked, shared database, a table display engine, and report printing engine.

Museum of Science Make Your Own Shell

Make Your Own Shell, produced by Interactive Factory for the Boston Museum of Science is a highly interactive and effective use of web 3D technology. The Shockwave movie lets you create three-dimensional shells varying the same parameters nature uses to create a wide variety of visually rich shells.

Interactive Factory developed the initial core 3D code while I implemented the interface, brought the project to completion, and added features such as emailing shells to friends.
