Flash Web Multimedia

Introduction

I develop everything from small Flash projects such as website navigation elements and games, to large, Rich Internet Applications (RIAs) with Oracle database connectivity requiring a structured, formalized development process.

I have over 7 years of ActionScript 2.0 and 3.0 object-oriented, programming experience, implementing interface interactivity, programmatic animation, SmartFoxServer multi-user server, Flash image processing, large project architecture and workflow, and XML data integration.

BankVue MoneyIsland

MoneyIsland by BancVue is a Flash virtual world where kids go on quests to fun destinations such as the Eiffel Tower and Atlantis. The kids learn along the way about financial responsibility and how to make good decisions. MoneyIsland is a rebranded version of the original CentsCity site with updated graphics, text, and functionality.

I developed the re-branded MoneyIsland teaser and demo sites. I programmed client changes and new functionality for integration to the back-end user and registration databases. 360KID provided project management, design, and art.

 
   
 

 

Hasbro Mouse Trap

MouseTrap is an online version reminiscent of the MouseTrap board game and produced by Electronic Arts and 360KID for Hasbro. The game utilizes the Box2D physics engine with Flash to create a dynamic and fun experience. Going beyond the board game, the online version includes 30 puzzle pieces and 20 challenging puzzles.

I architected and programmed the game including puzzle editing development tools with art and design created by 360KID.

 
   
 

 

PBS Kids Sprout Online Click 'n' Color

Click 'n' Color is an easy to use and interactive coloring application for PBS Kids Sprout Online and allows kids to create their own coloring pages for printing offline or coloring online. Kids can also email their friends copies of their art masterpieces.

I programmed the application with art and design provided by 360Kid.

 
   
 

 

Holt McDougal Teacher One Stop

The Teacher One Stop is an industry standard for the supplementary and teacher resources that accompany classroom textbooks. The Teacher One Stop provides the documents, tools, and multimedia to allow teachers to edit, adapt, search, and expand their collections of Holt resources.

I managed an international team of developers, designed the project architecture, and provided Flash and Director programming support.

 
   
 

 

Grafight

Grafight is a Syracuse, NY based startup with a web game that allows users to upload hand drawn characters and watch the characters cinematically battle against characters from other users. The company won an award for Best Business Plan at the Syracuse Technology Garden Demo Day.

I developed the initial Grafight application which included extensive Flash image processing functions and real-time application of forward-kinematics to animate the user's sketches.

 
   
 

 

Interactive Website Elements

Interactive Factory provides its clients high-quality websites with a judicious use of Flash elements for enhanced user interaction. For example, I developed a Flash menu for the Harvard Business School and I created a combined video gallery and player for CHAMP.

I programmed the Flash elements to be data driven, one XML file allows the clients to easily change the element’s content. The elements include programmatic animation and streaming downloads to provide the best user experience.

 
   
 

 

Fountas & Pinnell LLI Lesson Resources CD-ROM

The Lesson Resources CD-ROM is part of the LLI Technology Package that accompanies the Leveled Literacy Intervention system for small-group reading instruction, a system that prevents literacy difficulties. The CD-ROM provides forms, printable student activities, charts, books, parent letters. and other record-keeping and observation forms and resources.

I developed the CD-ROM in Flash with a Director shell for CD-ROM delivery.

 
   
 

 

Heinemann Fountas & Pinnell Benchmark Assessment Data Management Application

The Benchmark Assessment System is a high-quality and comprehensive reading assessment for grades K–8. The System includes a data management online application to make it easy for teachers to track and analyze assessment data for individual students and entire classes.

I programmed several front-end Flash modules which connect via Java to an Oracle database.

 
   
 

 

Classworks Science

Classworks Science is set of over 200 mini-lessons, scoreable activities, and quick quizzes developed by Six Red Marbles. Classworks is a a network-based curriculum resource proven to be effective in raising student performance.

Six Red Marbles integrated its proprietary BlueJacks content management system along with its activity development system to support the automated creation of hundreds of Classworks Science activities. The development system included standardized, SCORM-like communications between the SRM developed client side content and the Classworks host system.

I architected and developed the core Flash activity system and also managed development.

 
   
 

 

Macmillan/McGraw-Hill TeacherWorks Plus

TeacherWorks Plus provides teachers with a lesson planning tool with an interactive lesson planner and resources such as an Interactive Teacher Edition, access to resource masters, audio clips, and links to the Internet.

I provided ongoing maintainance and feature enhancement programming for the the Flash application.

 
   
 

 

Harcourt School Publishers Comprehension Expedition

The Comprehension Expedition by Harcourt School Publishers provides a management tool for teachers and a content portal for students.

The system is a collection of over 60 interactive activities and reading-based games that provide a way for students in grades 3-6 to learn and practice reading comprehension skills. The entertaining system includes warm-up activities, multiple choice comprehension quizzes, and reward games.

A teacher using the system can monitor student progress, manage student information, assign activities, and generate reports.

I managed project development, designed the application architecture, and programmed major components of the application.

 
   
 

McGraw-Hill Wright Group X-Zone

The X-Zone is a set of leveled books with high interest topics designed to engage reluctant readers. The accompanying CD-ROM produced by Six Red Marbles uses Flash activities to reinforce the skills and knowledge learned in the books.

The CD-ROMs also include features such as student information management, progress reporting, and links to support tools.

I developed several Flash activities and the project architecture including both the Flash and Director shell components.
